Introduction
Herndon 2050 is the Town’s long-range Comprehensive Plan. It sets a shared vision and a clear roadmap for Herndon’s future over the next 25 years.
As a “comprehensive” plan, it looks at many parts of everyday life in Herndon—where people live and work, how they get around, where they shop and dine, how they spend their free time, and how the Town provides services and maintains infrastructure.
This is your chance to share ideas and help shape what Herndon will look like in the years ahead.

The Herndon 2050 Comprehensive Plan is a fresh, community-driven look at how the Town can grow and thrive over the coming decades. The planning process will focus on listening, learning, and working together to create a shared vision that reflects Herndon’s values—while preparing for change in a thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable way.
What This Planning Effort Aims to Do
Through this process, the Town will work with the community to:
Create a shared vision for Herndon’s future that reflects community values and translates big ideas into clear, actionable direction.
Guide thoughtful growth and change—including appropriate density—while preserving Herndon’s small-town character, historic resources, and sense of place.
Promote equity, inclusion, and accessibility so that all residents can safely access housing, transportation, services, parks, and public spaces.
Support a strong, resilient local economy by strengthening businesses, expanding job opportunities, and ensuring long-term fiscal health.
Plan for modern infrastructure and environmental sustainability, including climate resilience, clean energy, healthy waterways, and efficient public facilities.
Encourage ongoing community engagement and collaboration, ensuring transparency and coordination across Town departments, partner agencies, and the broader community.
